About Us

Lanier Knives is a one-man operation out of my backyard shed.

I was hooked on my love for weapons of all kinds as a young child. Around 2011 I got my first balisong.. The rest is history! I had never had a balisong at that time, so I figure "why not?". Therefore, I bought this junk CCC (Cheap Chinese Crap) balisong in little knife shop in Colorado. I began casually flipping the balisong and learning tricks. I then discovered an internet forum that had a sub group specifically for balisongs. I joined the forum and began to learn from all these guy, some whom have become some of my closest friends. Collecting balisongs was not my intention initially, as I just wanted to flip. There was not many balisongs available at the time, so choices were limited. After I purchased my first quality balisong then I soon bought another high quality balisongs.. then another.. and another.. Next thing I know is that I'm preparing to go to college and I have a large collection to bring with me. After graduating with a degree in civil engineering and a minor in structural engineering, I decided that I wanted to start building some knives instead of just collecting. I sold most of my collection and then began this journey of knifemaking.

The beginning of Lanier Knives consisted of acquiring some machinery. I used the money from selling my knife collection to buy some tools. Belt grinders was one thing I really need, but they are quite expensive. Therefore, I decided to just build my own belt grinder to help my budget. Success! I found a local shop (Smith and Sons) that made knives and reached out to them about a knifemaking class. A month or so later I went to the class and built a small fixed blade with an antler handle with the help from the Smith family. I soon after built my first knife at my house. My first knife I made was a fixed blade about 8" in length with about a 3.5" blade out of O1 tool steel that I heat treated in house. I still have it and carry it from time to time. Its a classy clip point blade style too. Two  years later (early 2021) I built my first balisong.

I build every knife to the best ability that I can. If I wouldn't want to own the knife then I am sure you wouldn't either. I've had this same philosophy in everything that I do for many many years and that philosophy is as follows; If you're going to do something then it better be worth doing, and if its worth doing then it is worth doing well.

If you have any questions or concerns then feel free to reach out to me any time and I will do my best to take care of you in a timely manner and with a proper response.
